Ambikapur: 3 people including a child were killed and 6 others injured when a bus carrying members of a marriage overturned in Chhattisgarh’s Surguja district on late Monday night, police said. The victims were returning to Sikilma village after attending the wedding function at Nandmali village, they said. Rajendra Khalkho (4), Aarti Bada (16) and Jeevan Minj (48) have died in this accident.
The accident took place near Lalmati village at around 10-11 PM. The driver apparently lost control over the wheels following which the vehicle overturned, an official said. Some passerby alerted the police and ambulance service and the victims were later shifted to hospital, he said. “While 2 occupants of the vehicle died on the spot, another person succumbed in the hospital,” the official said. The 6 injured persons are undergoing treatment at the Medical College Hospital, Ambikapur, he said. The police have registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR), he added.
According to the same Additional SP Ambikapur Vivek Shukla, the accidental bus belonged to a private school in Raghunathpur, which was hired for the procession. The family members of the injured persons said that the driver was drunk. The woman travelling on the bus told us that we were all returning. That’s when this accident happened. He told that the bus driver was repeatedly driving the bus by leaving his hands. Despite repeated explanations, he did not agree. Eventually, 3 people lost their lives due to his carelessness. The woman told that the child who died was sitting in front. After the incident, the bus driver left the bus and fled. Those who died have been PMed today. After which the body has been handed over to their families.
