Chhattisgarh: The Sarkanda police have nabbed two persons for allegedly taking bets on ongoing IPL matches, an official said here. The accused were reportedly caught red-handed while holding a transaction in the bet.

Acting on the tip-off, a police team raided the spot and nabbed the accused who were accepting bets, Sarkanda Station in charge said. The arrested bookies are identified as  Vishal Chandani and Siddharth Tiwari residents of Sarkanda.

The police have seized Rs 22,500 in cash and other equipment used in the betting including 1 Television and 4 mobile phones used to conduct the betting.

Since the 15th season of IPL commenced the Raipur police has been actively monitoring suspects and launching search operations. As part of their preparedness, the task force police have collected details of rented apartments and guest houses located in the city outskirts, service apartments and hotels in the city, and deployed informers. Also, background checks are underway at all the recently rented-out flats.  Special teams have been engaged for patrolling on the outskirts as the bookies hold bets while on the move. Teams have been instructed to keep a close eye on the activities of known syndicates.
