Bijapur: A Naxalite holding a bounty of Rs 3 lakh surrendered to the Superintendent of Police Bijapur Kamlochan Kashyap, Additional SP and Deputy SP. Identified as Pandu Ram Savalam, officials confirmed his surrender on Monday.
As per the information given in by police officials, Pandu was recruited as Silger Chetna Natya Manch member in 2009 by Commander Lalu Korsa of Silger RPC. Subsequently, in 2011, he was selected as a member of a Militia Platoon in Silger Panchayat. In the year 2013, he was inducted as a member of the People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army in platoon No 10. Two years later, he was sent to Telangana where he joined Damoram Dalaram. In the following year, he was assigned as the Vajedu LOS Deputy Commander.
Tracking down records of the surrendered Naxalite disclosed his involvement in an IED blast and firing at police in Jagargunda village in the year 2010. He is also reported to have been involved in 2011, IED blast in Narasapuram village. He is sought to be an active participant in the 2012 Jagargunda incident where live bombs were hurled at the police forces at the station. In 2014, he was amongst the ultra’s that faced an encounter in Purvi village. Off late, Pandu was involved in the Tekulgudiam encounter.
Police officials in Bijapur under the supervision of SP Kashyap have been running a Naxalite eradication campaign in and around the districts bordering Telangana. Through this campaign, several Naxalites have reverted to the mainstream.
