Raipur: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence has seized a truck loaded with 1,534 kilos of cannabis near Raipur in Chhattisgarh. The estimated worth of the seized cannabis is nearly 3.07 crores, said the officials. Five persons were arrested on the spot and charges of smuggling illegal drug paraphernalia have been filed against them. The DRI is into the further investigation, to find out the leaders of the racket.
The reports say that the truck was coming from the Araku Valley of Andhra Pradesh and heading towards Rahta, Maharashtra. The cannabis-loaded truck was being escorted by a pilot car, revealed an official.
DRI press release has revealed a few more things, which states that the officers of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh units of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence on a joint operation have seized the truck (AP-05, TT-5856). Inside the truck, the drugs were hidden under packages of organic fertilizers.
Contextually, with this interception, the Indore zonal unit of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence has seized more or less 5,842 kilos of cannabis in the fiscal year of 2020-’21, besides arresting 21 people involved in smuggling cases, while in the previous FY of 2019-’20, the DRI intercepted a total 5,672 kilos of cannabis and arrested 16 people.
