Hyderabad: The Maoists organization in Telangana has suffered a major setback. A large number of Maoist cadres surrendered before Chief Minister Revanth Reddy on Friday, before March 31, 2026. A total of 130 Maoists from various levels have surrendered. These include three state committee members, one regional committee member, 10 divisional/DYCM level cadres, 40 area committee members, and approximately 70 party members.
A large number of Maoists from Bastar origin are among those who surrendered. Forty-two were active in the PLGA battalion, 30 in the Telangana State Committee, 32 associated with the Dandakaranya Special Zonal Committee, 16 from the 2nd CRC, and 10 associated with Central Committee member Devji’s team have renounced violence.
130 Maoists had a bounty of Rs 4.18 crore on them.
A reward of 41.8 million rupees (418,20,000 rupees) has been announced on these Maoists. During their surrender, the Maoists also handed over a large quantity of weapons and ammunition to security agencies. The weapons recovered include one INSAS LMG, 21 AK-47s, 21 INSAS rifles, 20 SLRs, 18 .303 rifles, one 9mm carbine, two 9mm pistols, two 8mm bolt-action rifles, 18 country-made guns, and two BGLs.
Due to continued pressure from security forces and the government’s rehabilitation policy, Maoist cadres have decided to return to the mainstream. Security agencies are considering this mass surrender as a major setback for the Maoist organization. The government says that all avenues for rehabilitation and a fresh start are open to those militants who wish to abandon violence and return to mainstream society.
