Raipur: With the arrest of 13 people, the Raipur Police on Friday claimed to have busted an IPL betting racket in the capital Raipur. Acting on a tip-off, police arrested 13 accused from Ramsagarpara and Telibandha areas for allegedly accepting bets on Indian Premier League matches, they said.
Superintendent of Police Prashant Agrawal said, “At around 10.30 pm, a raid was conducted where 13 men were found betting on an IPL match and were arrested.” It is said all the people were from Raipur, Chhattisgarh.
A case has been registered against them under provisions of the gambling act at Telibandha police station, police said, adding 69 mobile phones, 07 laptops, 05 LED TVs, 04 keyboards, 02 calculators, a printer, Rs 47,100 in cash and betting records detailing transactions of around Rs 2 crore with details of bets placed by them were seized.
They had bet on an IPL match between Chennai Super Kings and Lucknow Super Giants on Thursday night at houses in Ramsagarpara and Telibandha areas.
