Bastar: 11 Naxalites including three women have surrendered in Dantewada, Chhattisgarh’s Naxalite zone. The development is cited as yet another success achieved under the ongoing ‘Lon Varatu’ campaign.
Police Officials of Dantewada on Wednesday said that the Maoist Rambati Barse, an active Maoist and 10 other Naxalites have surrendered from Madangir Area Committee. Naxalites accept their involvement in looting the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) in 2013 during the elections of Vidhan Sabha, firing on police, putting the vehicles on fire, and arranging meetings for Naxalite heads.
Meanwhile, the Naxalites shall observe July 28 to August 3 as the martyrdom week. The Police has been alerted in the entire Bastar division to avoid any major accident. Inspector General of Chhattisgarh Police, Sundar P has asked all the Superintendent of Police (SPs) of the seven districts of Bastar to be alert.
Special Additional Director General (ADG) of Chhattisgarh’s Naxal Operation Ashok Juneja visited Bastar, Bijapur, Dantewada, and Jagdalpur to assess the situation. Sources reveal that ADG called for a confidential meeting of the officers to decide the future strategy.
Kirandul-Visakhapatnam rail route is an expected target of the Maoists. A few days ago, there was a police-Naxal encounter behind the hill of Dholkal in which a Naxalite was killed. The Police shall also keep a close watch in the border areas. Along with this, the Naxal operations in the interior areas will also be intensified.
