Residents of Tamil Nadu continued to experience heavy rainfall on Wednesday after experiencing intense rains on Tuesday. In the Choolaimedu of Chennai area, heavy rains uprooted several trees, while in the city of Thoothukudi, waterlogging was seen in several localities affecting daily life and traffic mobility. In the Sivaganga district, persistent rain resulted in waterlogging in agricultural fields and low-lying areas affecting farmers and local communities.
Villupuram saw significant waterlogging at the city’s bus stand, leaving passengers stranded while canceling the bus service. Authorities advised the residents to stay safe and to stay away from the waterlogged areas whenever possible.
After heavy rainfall and the forecast of heavy rains, schools in several cities, including Chennai, Chengalpet, Tiruvallur, Villupuram, Kallakurichi, Cuddalore, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, and Mayiladuthurai, will be closed on Wednesday. Puducherry also saw widespread waterlogging, resulting in all government and private schools and colleges in the city and the Karaikal region being closed. Authorities are constantly monitoring the rains and urging residents to remain vigilant and aware of safety advisories.
