Nagpur: The Nagpur police disclosed on Thursday that the CCTV footage that captured the scenes inside the bar where Sanket Bawankule, son of the Maharashtra BJP chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule visited before a major Audi crash, is missing. According to the police information, Sanket Bawankule and his friends were at La Horre Bar before the incident. According to the reports, the Audi that reportedly was being driven by Sanket’s friend Arjun Hawre had a terrible accident, ramming through several cars in the Ramdaspeth area in Nagpur early Monday morning, which left two persons injured.
After the crash, the police took the bar’s digital video recorder (DVR) on Wednesday. A police officer who preferred anonymity from Sitabuldi police station said, “Alas, the CCTV footage from the bar is missing. We got the bar’s DVR and referred it to the forensic unit for further investigation. The bar management was reluctant to give us the footage, but they had to surrender when threatened with legal action. But they realized that the footage they had recorded on Sunday night was missing from the camera.
Audi used by Sanket Bawankule met an accident on more than one occasion on Monday early morning. One of the affected vehicles chased the Audi and managed to catch Sanket’s friends, Arjun Hawre and Ronit Chittwamwar, who were handed over to the police. Hawre, who was said to be driving the vehicle, was arrested but was released on bail as the offence was bailable.
Speaking to the press, Nagpur Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Rahul Madane assured us that Sanket Bawankule was in the car but not the driver. All three occupants, Sanket, Arjun, and Ronit the last three were interrogated. The DCP said: “We have the driver, Arjun Hawre, in our custody, and all the passengers’ medical samples have been taken for the forensic examination; the results are still pending. ”
