On Monday, the owner of the residence of one of the lead accused, Fahim Khan, of the recently erupted violence in Nagpur, which claimed seven lives, was bulldozed by the Nagpur Municipal Corporation. The violence then broke out after rumors that a ‘chadar’, bearing religious inscriptions, had been set afire by protesters belonging to the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP). Moreover, these protests sought to remove the Mughal ruler Aurangzeb’s tomb which was located in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.
They had arrived with bulldozers at Fahim Khan’s residence at Sanjay Bagh Colony of the Yashodhara Nagar area, it added, saying that the municipal team had arrived at his house to destroy an unauthorized construction. Khan’s wife is the official registered name of the property. Khan was ordered to move the building in the notice and did not comply when action was taken.
Minority Democratic Party (MDP) leader Fahim Khan is facing serious charges of sedition and other crimes. He is among more than 100 people taken into police custody in relation to the March 17 violence that rocked the city. Notices for multiple irregularities in construction have been served on him, and the imminent demolition of it was also served Notice by the Nagpur Municipal Corporation, sources revealed.
This is part of the crackdown on the alleged instigators of unrest and of violating civic regulations, officials said. This is a step by the municipal corporation to send out a firm message to those who are disrupting law and order and to the unlawful constructions and activities that go into the rally with them. Authorities are continuing to work toward establishing order and peace in the city and are presently trying further investigations and legal proceedings against Khan et.al trying to establish order.
