During a religious procession in Jamui, Bihar, Sunday turned into a clash between two communities, and the state government decided to shut down the internet temporarily in the district. The officials said the violence took place in Jhajha, a town in Jamui, where people belonging to both communities engaged in stone-throwing, leaving three persons injured in the process.

In the incensed situation, nine people were arrested, and Abhilasha Sharma, District Magistrate of Jamui, confirmed the arrest. Following the unrest, the incident of dereliction of duty was suspended in response by a police official.

The flag march, followed by the district police, assuring the public of the authorities’ vigilance, was conducted in Jhajha on Monday to prevent further escalation. There was a case registered against 50 to 60 unidentified individuals involved in violence.

According to District Magistrate Sharma, clashes between the two communities had turned violent while the procession was on. Soon, an altercation deteriorated when stones were thrown on both sides, and injuries were caused. Three of the injured were immediately taken to the nearby government hospital, where their injuries were reported as non-life threatening, and the trio are in stable condition.

Internet services were suspended as a precautionary step to prevent the spread of rumors and keep the law and order, the official said. The local authorities are monitoring the situation closely to restore peace. The police are continuing investigations to identify other people involved in the disturbance.
