Detailing his movable and immovable assets for the year-end disclosure, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has declared the total value of ₹1.64 crore. All the ministers in Bihar must submit their asset records and all the liabilities on the 31st of December of any year. Such records shall be uploaded to the Bihar government website.

As per the disclosure, Nitish Kumar has movable assets to the tune of ₹16.97 lakh, which comprises ₹21,052 in cash and ₹60,811.56 in the amount deposited in banks. The net worth of his fixed assets is ₹ 1.48 crores, mostly consisting of his residential flat in Dwarka of New Delhi, but he has some strategic investment in a cooperative house also. However, what can be seen is that the total assets of the Chief Minister have risen slightly from ₹1.64 crore in 2023 to ₹1.64 crore in 2024.

However, a number of the cabinet ministers in Bihar are much richer than the Chief Minister of the state. For instance, Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary declared ₹ 6.7 lakh in cash and ₹ 8.28 crore in immovable property. Kumari Mamta, wife of his, has ₹5,70,000 in cash. Choudhary also possesses one rifle, costly of ₹ 4 lakhs.

Similarly, another Deputy Chief Minister, Vijay Kumar Sinha, reported an Income of immovable assets of ₹2.42 crore, while property owned by his wife is ₹3.32 crore. Sinha does not possess cash but has a revolver of ₹ 77,181/- on him.

The outcome of the asset disclosure is the representation of the various equity status of Bihar’s political leadership. It also shows that Nitish Kumar’s financial background is much lower than that of some of his cabinet ministers. This practice of declaration of assets is a regular annual feature of the Bihar government to make people aware of the financial prospects of their leaders.
