The Bihar cabinet, which was headed by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday, also okayed a 3% hike in the Dearness Allowance (DA) for its employees and pensioners.
The new DA will increase from fifty percent to fifty-three percent, benefiting 11 lakh employees and pensioners nationwide. The increment will take effect from the financial year starting on July 1, 2024, and the beneficiaries will also be paid arrears up to the months remaining in the financial year.
The state cabinet made some other significant decisions, apart from the augmentation of the DA, to enhance the facilities and the liveliness of the people. An amount of ₹120.58 crore was approved to buy the 50.50 acres of land in and around Punaura Dham Janki Mandir, Sitamarhi district. The land will thus be used to build structures for tourists’ accommodation and other essentials to make the religious association an attractive destination.
In a major step forward to redress the issue of landlessness, the cabinet has recently accorded its approval to a new scheme, namely ‘ Mukhyamantri Grihsthal Kraya Yojna.’ In this regard, the Revenue and Land Reforms Department would give an amount of ₹ 1 lakh to the landless families of Bihar to buy three decimal land for dwelling or agriculture. The main intervention envisaged under this campaign is the ambition of enhancing the quality of life for families with a low standard of living by assisting them in acquiring land rights.
Also, on this front, the cabinet approved the building of a bridge over the Bagmati River in Muzaffarpur measuring 3.35 KM under the Bihar State Highway IV Project (BSHP-IV) and 21.30 KM Hathauri-Aurai-Atrar road. In addition, ₹115 crore was earmarked for the rollout of the priority corridor of the Patna Metro Rail Project, which is a positive development for the state’s urban structure. They truly represent continuing policies of development on Bihar’s economic well-being as well as physical infrastructure.
