The southern city of Bengaluru received only moderate rains on Thursday as the sky remained cloudy most part of the day, thus changing the weather pattern of the region. The IMD has put Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural and other places in Karnataka under a yellow alert, valid up to December 13. It is not only rainfall but part of several days’ weather sequence due to the formation of a low pressure area in the Bay of Bengal.
According to the IMD, there would be moderate rains over the southern districts of Karnataka and similar conditions in Chitradurga, Kolar, Ramanagara, Mysuru, Tumakuru, Chamarajanagar and surrounding areas. The government has warned that coastal districts, especially Dakshina Kannada and Udupi, will receive more rainfall up to December 14, and this will prove cumbersome for the affected population.
Night temperatures in Bengaluru are expected to be between 18°C to 25°C, and the city witnessed the humidity from Thursday was 86%, which was slightly higher than Wednesday. Since temperature also drops as winds start blowing from the northeast at a speed of 16 km/h, a cool breeze is experienced, while the AQI at 76 shows that the air quality is moderate.
KSNDMC has said that there is a depression in the Bay of Bengal due to Cyclone Fengal, which is causing the continuous rains. This has caused the realization of below-average temperatures in many areas around Bengaluru, including light to moderate showers. The people of the city have received cooler weather with an open arm, as it is normally very hot most of the time.
However, coastal Karnataka received serious impacts from Cyclone Fengal, with continuous heavy rainfall and thunderstorms across the region. The IMD has called upon those living in such areas to be anxious, particularly those living in flooded, waterlogged areas. This requires that authorities keep a close eye on the developing conditions in readiness to mitigate the effects of the adverse weather on the people and physical property.
