Bengaluru: Dengue fever has become rampant in Bengaluru; the city is recording around 150 daily new cases, and this has alarmed most stakeholders in the city. A news agency quoted Tushar Giri Nath, the Chief Commissioner of Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), as telling the zonal officials to act swiftly if they want action against the viral disease to be taken in their region.
At BSWMC on Tuesday, Nath said that between July 1 and July 22, Bengaluru recorded a total of 3,304 dengue cases. CCP Chief said that he instructed all the Zone Commissioners to have daily coordination meetings with the Health Department officials regarding the dengue control measures. They were also charged with enhancing practices such as fogging and pesticide sprays to minimize the breeding grounds of mosquitoes.
In addition, senior officials were warned to go to hospitals often to observe the notification rate and to check on the regulated fees for the dengue test kits often set by the government. Measures were required to be taken against the hospitals which had offered services at any rates higher than the prescribed ones. Nath also pointed out that other civic problems need to be looked into like fixing the potholes on the main roads, a survey of out-of-school children in the BBMP area, and proper collection of house taxes.
Public Awareness in Bengaluru
To increase awareness among the public on dengue prevention strategies, BBMP launched the ‘Dengue Warrior’ short video competition. It has assured the ten best entries with cash rewards and asked students to make reels related to vector-borne diseases. The following contest is intended to increase community awareness and share vital information on how to prevent the spread of dengue.
This comes following the rising dengue-transmitted diseases situation across the city, where the Health Department has recently deployed nodal officers to all the governmental units in Bengaluru. These officers will be instrumental in improving and facilitating the projection of a joined-up fight against the current dengue virus epidemic in the city.
