Police informed on Friday that five school students from Assam Dhemaji district, who went missing on Thursday, have been traced and rescued from Silchar railway station. All the teenagers who would travel to Mizoram and settle there were students.

The students were found to be aged 14 to 17, carrying guitars, while one of the students was a budding cricketer, said Cachar SP (Superintendent of Police) Numal Mahatta. When they were questioned in a preliminary manner, they stated that they wanted to move to Aizawl from Assam, and pursue various other lines of careers, different from what is done in a conventional school.

The students had gone from their homes Thursday morning and left never going to school, Dhemaji SP Hitesh Chandra Roy stated. When they disappeared, their families raised concerns. Investigators found that the group had gone to Rangiya and boarded a Barak Valley-bound train, which suggests the place for the hoax was Rangiya.

Dhemaji police were quick to get this information and immediately consulted (the Superintendents of Police, SPs) of all the three districts of Barak Valley, namely Cachar, Hailakandi and Karimganj to begin search operations. The authorities were successful in acting on leads to put right the students before they could proceed further towards Mizoram at Silchar railway station.

Meanwhile, the students and their parents are being brought together by the police. Similarly, authorities have also asked for open communication with parents and urged the parents to be at their ears to avoid any such incidents again in future.

The incident made the need for the necessary help in career guidance and support by parents and the like evident, as it has shown the influence of external factors which push young students away from their homes to seek alternate opportunities.
