In a recent development, two teenage girls, aged between 15 and 16, who went missing from Jorhat district in Assam on February 12 have been successfully located and rescued in Bihar, as confirmed by the police on Friday. The girls belonged from the Kalyanpur area in the Mariani town of Jorhat. When they disappeared, their family members filed a complaint on the same day.
According to preliminary reports, the girls were discovered by their family members at a railway station while the duo was en route from Bengaluru back to Assam. The family managed to track the girls through their mobile phones and successfully convinced them to return home.
While the family is relieved to have the girls back, they are now focused on understanding the circumstances that led to their sudden departure. The family, expressing concern for the emotional well-being of the girls, requested that they not be subjected to immediate interrogation due to the trauma they endured.
In contrast, the family members voiced dissatisfaction with the police response, alleging negligence in handling the case. They claimed that despite their appeals, the police did not take the matter seriously, even though the girls were minors and the family feared the possibility of them being kidnapped by human traffickers.
A senior police officer acknowledged the family’s concerns but emphasized the need to handle the situation delicately, considering the girls’ emotional state. The officer assured that a thorough investigation would be conducted to understand the reasons behind the girls’ disappearance.
The incident highlights the complex and sensitive nature of missing persons cases, underscoring the importance of a collaborative effort between law enforcement and families to ensure the safety and well-being of individuals, especially minors, who go missing under mysterious circumstances.
