The CID of the Assam Police has on Friday sent notices to those who were in the presence or know of how singer Zubeen Garg died in Singapore and demanded that they appear before the authorities within 10 days, a senior police official said. This action will be done within the current investigation underway by a Special Investigating Team (SIT) established by CID in probing the death of the singer.

The second day of inspections of the premises has seen the SIT actively carrying out searches at various places, as the second day of search occurred at the residence of the North East India Festival organiser, Shyamkanu Mahanta. The houses of the manager of Garg, Siddhartha Sharma, and that of the musician, Shekhar Jyoti Goswami, both of whom were at the same house with the singer on September 19 when the drowning incident took place, were also searched on Thursday.

The representatives of the Assamese community living in Singapore and having been in the company of Garg on the yacht trip on which the drowning took place were also put under the scrutiny of the investigation. On Friday, statements were also made by a few artistes and people affiliated to the cultural field in the office of CID as part of the evidence-gathering process.

The SIT of 10 men, headed by the Special DGP, M P Gupta, is charged with the responsibility of carrying out an in-depth investigation of the death of Garg. The seriousness with which the investigation is taken was earlier indicated by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who had said that the state government would suggest a CBI investigation in case the SIT investigation is not satisfactory.

In the meantime, Assam Police disproved rumors over the Internet, saying that speculations on the suspension of the work of internet services in the state were baseless. The police gave posts on social media warning citizens against spreading such fake messages and that the internet services would not be affected.

The case is under investigation with increased citizen attention, and the police are also monitoring all the witnesses, both in Assam and in other foreign countries.
