Mumbai: BJP National General Secretary Vinod Tawde made this reveal through a social media post stating that the first underground metro train to be launched in Mumbai, also referred to as Aqua Line or Metro 3, will be launched on July 24. This means that this was widely regarded as the next big step in addressing commuting challenges within the busy city.
Aqua Line to Enhance Connectivity
The Aqua Line will connect core cities of Mumbai such as Colaba, SEEPZ, Bandra, etc, and the line will be 33. From Aarey Colony to Cuffe Parade, it will be 5 km, and the total number of stops will be 27. Whereas Line 1 was implemented under a private partnership with Reliance, Line 3 has been implemented under MMRDA, namely Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority.
Vinod Tawde had said, “Mumbaikars will get the first underground metro as the Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji’s works for improving its pace will for sure go on.”
Impact of Aqua Line
The government sources make a statement that the Aqua Line is going to evolve the urban transport system and is going to reduce traffic congestion and thus optimize the travel frequency in Mumbai. There is provision for accommodating as many as 3,000 passengers in a go, and the passenger holding capacity of the metro line is 17 lakh daily ridership.
The total cost estimated for the project is ₹23,136 crore, but JICA provided substantial funding for the project to be executed. This financial support also proves International cooperation in the infrastructural growth of Mumbai.
Mumbai currently has Lines 1, 2A, and 7; however, construction is in progress for other metro lines. The introduction of the Aqua Line seems to elevate congestion-related travel, especially for those from South Mumbai. Trial runs conducted in the initial days of May from Aarey Colony to Dadar proved that the new metro was ready for operations and was efficient.
