Bengaluru: As farmer groups and pro-Kannada organizations orchestrate a city-wide bandh in Bengaluru, disruptions are anticipated in various aspects of the city’s operations. Over 175 organizations have rallied behind this bandh, which has been called to protest the release of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu.
Given the expected disruptions, several airlines have taken proactive measures by issuing travel advisories for passengers travelling to and from Kempegowda International Airport. The advisories aim to help passengers navigate potential challenges such as traffic congestion and the shutdown of hotels and restaurants across the city.
Airlines, including Vistara, IndiGo, SpiceJet, and Akasa Air, have issued warnings to passengers, emphasizing potential disruptions in private transportation and urging travellers to plan their journeys to Bengaluru Airport with extra time in mind.
In a statement posted on X, formerly Twitter, Vistara Airlines alerted passengers, saying, “Due to the ‘Bengaluru Bandh’ scheduled for September 26, 2023, private transport may face disruptions. Customers traveling from Bangalore are advised to allocate more time for their journey to the airport. Thank you.”
IndiGo Airlines echoed similar sentiments, cautioning travellers about the possibility of extended travel times to the airport and recommending that passengers arrive at least 2.5 hours before domestic flights and 3.5 hours before international departures.
Their advisory stated, “Travel time to #Bengaluru airport may take longer than normal due to the Bandh declared in #Bengaluru. We recommend arriving at least 2.5 hrs before domestic and 3.5 hrs before international departures.”
The travel advisories come as a response to the anticipated challenges posed by the bandh as Bengaluru residents brace themselves for a day of disruptions and protests.
