The Mumbai Police has recently had much success in arresting the person who issued bomb threats to Air India’s flight AI 119. The accused was examined in the court, and it was found that the latter was a minor from Rajnandgaon, Chhattisgarh, born out of a business-class family. The bomb threat which was posted on X (ex-Twitter) led to several hours of high alert across the country.
In regard to the threat, the Mumbai Police Commissioner decided to set up an SIT to investigate the case. This team is under the leadership of Manish Kalwania, a 2015 batch IPS officer and DCP of Mumbai airport. The team also embraced officers at the inspector level and all were working in collaboration to ensure that the case was solved. In this case, after one month of investigating, the team identified the source of the threat and went all the way from Mumbai to Rajnandgaon in Chhattisgarh to arrest the minor son of a businessman. The minor is still being interrogated by the SIT to get more details regarding the threat, as stated earlier.
As a result of the bomb threat, a lot of disruptions were experienced at Air India. The flight AI 119, which was scheduled to operate from Mumbai to New York Sector, developed a technical problem in mid-air and had no option but to land at Delhi Airport as the situation was critical. The moment the sentence containing a bomb threat was posted on Twitter, security took measures to protect people on the plane and in it.
To this, the Mumbai Police responded with the seriousness that the issue deserved and proceeded to apprehend the offenders. Thus, some facts have been disclosed in the investigation: the minor belongs to a large business family, and the police are studying the reasons for the crime committed. To the best of the SIT, more details that may help explain why this is such a threatening phenomenon have not yet been ascertained.
