Assam Assessment election contestant Prateek Bordoloi has pulled out of the race as a candidate on the Congress party ticket against Margherita, indicating a changed situation after his father left his party. His choice is only two days after his father, Pradyut Bordoloi, a sitting parliamentarian (member of parliament) of the Nagaon constituency, had crossed the floor and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in time before the much-anticipated state elections.

Prateek was a political first-time candidate, whom Congress had pitted against the Margherita constituency, which his father had previously served over four terms. Nevertheless, the electoral strategy of the BJP in the region seems to have been upset by the abrupt change of Pradyut Bordoloi to the BJP.

Prateek wrote in a letter to the president of Congress Mallikarjun Kharge that it would be inappropriate that he remain a candidate in the current conditions. He stressed that voters and party workers must have understanding and trust in the candidate who is representing the party and any mistake on his part to be confused on his stand might lead to loss of trust.

Although he withdrew his candidature, Prateek reiterated that he would remain an active Congress member ready to serve the party and people of Margherita in any new position that would be given to him by the party leadership.

In the mean time, Assam Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi showed his empathy and support to Prateek noting how the situation was hard. The growth has given a new dimension to the Assam political environment before the coming elections.
