Gujarat Giants defeat Delhi Capital by 11 runs staying alive in the race to playoffs. Ashleigh Gardner joined Wolvaardt to give Gujarat its second win in the maiden WPL season on Thursday. South African opener Laura Wolvaardt hit a 45 ball 57 in partnership with Ashleigh Gardner who scored an unbeaten 51 to a competitive 147 for 4 against the DC at Brabourne. Wolvaardt also brought up her maiden half-century of the tournament today.

After a slow start, Gujarat Giants turned the tables on Delhi Capitals by scoring 94 runs in the final 10 overs, with 53 runs coming off the final 30 balls. Gardner reached her half-century in 32 balls in the final over of the innings, bringing her team’s total to 147/4.

Earlier the DC won the toss and opted to bowl first. India leg-spinner Poonam Yadav replaced USA’s left-arm pace all-rounder Tara Norris in the playing eleven. Gujarat captain Sneh Rana said South Africa batter Laura Wolvaardt and uncapped pace all-rounder Ashwani Kumari came in place of Sabbhineni Meghana and Australia all-rounder Annabel Sutherland. The last time the teams played, GG were thrashed by DC thanks to Marizanne Kapp’s five-fer and a blazing fifty by Shafali Verma.
