New Delhi: The ad hoc committee responsible for conducting the Wrestling Federation of India’s elections has postponed the polls by five days, confirms committee chairperson Bhupender Singh Bajwa today. The elections originally scheduled for July 6 shall now be held on July 11.
“We received complaints from at least 10 state bodies over a variety of issues. Most of the complaints pertained to affiliation; some bodies said they have been sidelined, some claimed they are the ones recognized by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA)”, said Bajwa.
The decision has been taken after at least 10 state units raised a variety of issues before the ad hoc panel as today was the last day for state associations to send their nominations for the constitution of the electoral college. With this, the last day for submission of entries has been extended to June 25.
Besides the five disaffiliated states; Maharashtra, Haryana, Telangana, Himachal Pradesh, and Rajasthan. Other complainants were Bihar, Tripura, Odisha, Meghalaya, and Assam. The meeting with the disaffiliated units began 3PM today in the IOA office and went on for nearly three hours. The ad hoc panel was likely to decide the Asian Games trials today but the matter discussed in the meeting remained about the elections only.
