Despite his consistent performances and being ranked as one of the greatest batsmen across formats, Virat Kohli’s strike rate has continued to face criticism through the course of the 2024 IPL season from fans, pundits, and even officials. However, Kohli faced difficulties and was able to use this situation as an opportunity to demonstrate his clear batting. One of the most outstanding was his great show against Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad, where he made 61 runs at a strike rate of 179, and he managed to counter the spinners.

Furthermore, his 92 not out against Punjab Kings performed at HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala not only brought to the notice of others his exceptional seven fours and six sixes, he got also noticed for not only his excellent execution of the rarely seen slog sweep, but also of a new force of his batting arsenal.

Former Indian cricket star Irfan Pathan, while being part of the Star Sports crew, expressed his admiration for Kohli’s unending desire to improve despite his wide array of achievements in cricket. Pathan highlighted the fact that Kohli’s readiness to improve and enhance his game makes him one of the best players in the world.

Pathan highlighted Kohli’s adaptability by stating, “This is why I feel he is one of the greatest players in the world. After all these years, he is still trying to improve himself. He never played the sweep shot. People then started criticising him, saying that since he doesn’t play the sweep shot, spinners have the edge when they attack the stumps or the pad. So what Kohli did, was he went a step ahead to play the slog sweep and the normal sweep and improved his strike rate.”

The way Kohli took the initiative to deal with his perceived weaknesses and the fact that he was ready to improve his skills shows how seriously he takes the pursuit of excellence. Through the process of welcoming new methods and always looking to progress, Virat Kohli not only pacifies his detractors best of all but also defines a glorious precedent for the next generation of cricketers.
