Fans are now concerned with Virat Kohli after a new photo of the India batting legend was published online on Friday. Taken on a day visit to London with a gentleman of whom little is known other than his name, Shash Kiran, the photo went viral not due to who he was with but for the reason of Kohli having a noticeably greying beard. His latest appearance shocked many as he was last seen in public just a matter of less than a month ago at the Yuvraj Singh YouWeCan event held on July 10.
During the same occasion, Virat Kohli had briefly roared in response when interviewed on why he was voluntarily retiring from Test matches. Though he did not elaborate, he said in jest that he had coloured his beard two days ago coloured his beard. “When you get to the point where you have to recolour that beard every fourth day, you know it is time.” Some dismissed the remark as something of a joke; however, the new photo apparently seems to confirm his theory, as he appears to have an even more recognizable salt-and-pepper appearance.
It is not the first time Kohli and his grey beard have stayed in the eyes of the internet. Even an Instagram photo he shared with his wife, Anushka Sharma, in July of 2023, did not receive attention due to the photo, but the beard instead. The phenomenon of early greying is a topic that can be attributed to Kohli and his predecessor, MS Dhoni, as the latter also experienced it in the course of his playing career. Remembering one of the conversations with Dhoni, Anushka had joked about how fast the beard of Kohli would turn grey, which it has as Kohli grew as a person and player too.
Last year, when India won the World Cup in the West Indies, Kohli announced his retirement from T20Is, a step that did not come as a surprise. But his retirement news in May 2025, after 14 years of playing Test cricket, surprised the cricket world. Although initially he finds himself scheduled to resume playing this very month, the deferment of the India tour in Bangladesh will keep the fans at bay until October, when he will play against Australia.
