In May 2025, Virat Kohli might have retired from Test cricket, but the demand to approach the longest format can only be increased. Both fans and former India captains have been pressurizing the former captain of India to reverse his decision and come back to the format which he has always termed as the one that is nearest to his heart. At the age of 37, Kohli retired his legendary Test career after having played 123 games, scoring 9,230 runs with a remarkable average of 46.85 which comprised 30 centuries and 31 half-centuries.
A poor Border-Gavaskar Trophy with Australia saw Virat Kohli announce his Test retirement. The decision came as a surprise to most people since it was only a few days before the announcement of the Indian squad to the England tour. His departure concluded an age, and more so considering that he had a passion and success in red-ball cricket.
Following his break with both Tests and T20 Internation matches, there were concerns on how Kohli would cope with the change of playing the ODI format. Nonetheless, the experienced batter has come out of critics in spectacular shows in 50-over cricket. During his final four ODIs, Kohli has been able to score 2 centuries and 2 half-centuries, showing once again that he is one of the best batters in the modern world.
India has just three matches in an ODI series against New Zealand starting January 11 in Vadodara and Kohli is preparing to travel to India. He posted images of his workout in his training on Instagram before the series, giving the fans a peek into his training.
Remarkably, this was the first Instagram post of the Kohli about the cricket-related content in half a year. His other cricket post was written after Royal Challengers Bengaluru won the inaugural IPL championship excluding his congratulatory message posted after the Indian team won the World Cup.
