New Delhi: The Indians praised Lovalina’s victory today morning, while yet again their hopes of gold dropped after Indian Women’s Hockey team lost the semis to Argentina.
Leading in the first quarter, Gurjit Kaur converted the penalty corner to give India the lead. However, Argentina came fighting back after the captain Barrionuevo took the onus to herself and found the equalizer. At the half time the match was evenly poised.
Close to the Full-time, the Argentina’s goalkeeper Maria Belen Succi turned the tables and India lost the deal at 1-2. Argentina will now take on Netherlands, while India will compete with Great Britain in the Bronze medal clash on Friday.
Earlier, Wrestler Ravi Dahiya assured India a silver medal when he cruised past Nurislam Sanayev of Kazakhstan. The 23-year-old wrestler was trailing Nurislam 7-9 in the semifinal when he pinned his opponent to be declared winner by fall. Dahiya made a remarkable comeback with only a minute remaining in the bout after trailing 2-9 at one stage.
In the final scheduled for Friday, Dahiya would compete against the winner of the other semifinal bout between Reza Atri of Iran and Zaur Uguev of ROC.
Wrestler Deepak Punia would fight for the bronze medal after he was outboxed by formidable American David Morris Taylor in the 86 kg semi finals on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Indian Golfer Aditi Ashok took off a brilliant start at the Olympics, carding a four-under 67 in the opening round.
