Vaibhav Suryavanshi, a fourteen year old batting wizard is once again redefining record books with his tremendous performances which just goes to prove that age is merely a number. Friday’s game between India and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) at the ICC Cricket Academy was a breathtaking knock by the young southpaw on behalf of India in their U19 Asia Cup game. Suryavanshi bludgeoned his way to 171 runs in a single inning, crushing the ball on 95 balls, hitting the ground with nine fours and an unbelievable 14 sixes. He had a strike rate of 180 that was explosive hence demonstrating his fearless nature, and the bowlers of the UAE had no response.

In this overpowering performance, Suryavanshi sent a world record in the number of sixes in a Youth ODI innings of 17 years. However, the old record was held by the Australian, Michael Hill who had scored 12 sixes against Namibia U19 in 2008. By breaking that milestone, Suryavanshi made his his name to be written in the list of the youth cricket history.

Suryavanshi, a 23-year-old Bihari player who hails out of Samastipur, already being a part of the Rajasthan Royals outfit in the Indian Premier League (IPL), is also the first player to have scored over 50 sixess in Youth ODIs, which is another landmark that validates his rapid ascendancy. He executed his century in only 56 balls, and this depicts the easy supremacy he commands at the crease.

The scalding strike by Vaibhav Suryavanshi drove India to huge total of 433/6 in 50 overs placing a lot of pressure on UAE side. Scoring 69 runs each, contributions of Aaron George and Vihaan Malhotra also reinforced the dominating role of India.

This and many such performances have made Vaibhav Suryavanshi one of the most promising young batting talents in India. His fearless stroke, consistency, and record breaking actions are indicative of a bright future and an indication that there is much more to come in terms of lengthy and phenomenal cricketing career.
