The French men’s team will be warming up for the Paralympic Games in Paris 2024 for Wheelchair Basketball Games’ Group A match against Canada on Friday. Great Britain’s men started their campaign on a high note by defeating Germany 76-55. In Group B the United States came under pressure but was victorious against Spain 66-56, while the Netherlands defeated Australia 66-55.
The British women were also excellent at the beginning of the championships, winning over Spain in their first match in Group A 69-34. In the other matches of Pool A, however, China had to fight hard to beat Canada: 70-65. Matches of Group B are going to start from Friday.
Besides exciting basketball events, Google celebrated the day by posting a Doodle on 30th August of a dynamic wheelchair basketball sport. The Doodle represented Google’s Summer Games birds, this time illustrated to do a slam dunk in a cartoonish manner. However, the illustration was meaningful at a deeper level, as shown below. In the Doodle, instead of throwing an ordinary basketball, the bird was depicted throwing a piece of trash which was depicted as one of Paris’s green waste bins.
This artistic twist was not just a playful element but also a subtle reminder of an important environmental message: do not throw away waste anywhere. Paris – the City of Lights and the haven of climate change efforts, especially after the Paris Climate Agreement of 2016, provided the perfect setting for Google’s go green campaign. Incorporating the waste bin into the Doodle, Google wanted to draw the attention of people to the idea of cleaning up our cities and saving the environment. Whether in Paris or any other city around the world, the message is clear: all people should be involved in the cleaning process.
