Sports: Four residents of the Tokyo Olympics village, including two athletes, are among the seven new COVID-19 cases that the event organisers announced on Tuesday. This took the infected count of the Tokyo Olympics 2020 to 155, with 20 of them in the Games village.
On Monday, Dutch tennis player Jean-Julien Rojer and his doubles partner Wesley Koolhof, pulled out of their second-round match following Rogers’s positive test result.
So far contingents from Czech Republic, the USA, Chile, South Africa and the Netherlands have been reported to be hit by COVID-19.
Of these the Czech Republic is inquiring into possible health safety protocol violations by its contingents after four of its athletes from the beach volleyball and road cycling matches as they tested positive for the virus.
Meanwhile, world second best Wimbledon champion Naomi Osaka was knocked out of the women singles event on Tuesday. Czech Republic’s Marketa Vondrousova defeated Osaka in straight sets 6-1, 6-4. The Czech prodigy maintained her charge in the second set and detained home favourite Osaka to come back. Earlier, on Sunday Wimbledon 2021 champion Ashleigh Barty was knocked out of the women’s singles.
