The Indian team may play in the Men Asia Cup 2025 without any jersey sponsor logo, as the online fantasy gaming websites have been banned by the passage of a new bill called, Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill. The tournament is set to begin soon, and unless some way is found around it, the national team might turn up in plain jerseys at the continental tournament, which opens on September 9 in the UAE.
Dream11 has been the front jersey sponsor of India in India since July 2023 after acquiring the same in a three-year deal with the Indian cricket board at BCCI. This deal is, however, threatened by the ban, which has seen the banning of fantasy sports and online gambling platforms operating within the country since the bill was passed by both houses of the parliament.
In response to the turn of events, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia assured that the board would abide completely with the regulations of the government. }In case it is not allowed, we will not do anything. The BCCI will abide by all the policies of the nation formulated by the central government, and it will not run the risk of going against the law,” he said.
Dreem11 also put up a release on the new law. The company revealed that it has ceased all games and competitions that were cash-based as per the bill. This leaves the sponsorship deal with BCCI hanging fire, and there is still no confirmation yet whether it will sign a replacement sponsor before the Asia Cup.
The move is one of the setbacks by the BCCI that has depended heavily on commercial ties to boost Indian cricket. It also poses concerns regarding the overall financial implications of the bill on sports sponsorship in India, considering the investment levels made in the sport by fantasy games operators.
