Team India registered a convincing 7-wicket win in their Asia Cup group-stage fixture against Pakistan on Sunday. Chasing a paltry 128, captain Suryakumar Yadav top-scored with an unbeaten 47 as India sealed the game with 4.1 overs to spare. However, the players didn’t interact or even shake hands after the fixture in Dubai concluded.
It all began at the toss ceremony. Suryakumar also didn’t shake hands with Salman during the toss ceremony. After the match, there was no customary handshake between the players of the two teams. The Men in Green lined up to shake hands, but the Indian players had already returned to the dressing room. Once Suryakumar and Dube returned to their dressing room, Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha and head coach Hesson approached the Indian camp, but no player came out to shake hands.
Later, Pakistan head coach Mike Hesson spoke about the reason behind captain Salman Agha’s decision to skip the post-match presentation ceremony after India defeated the arch-rivals by 7 wickets in the Group A match of the Asia Cup 2025. Hesson said that the decision was due to the Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav and the other Indian players refusing to shake hands with the Pakistan players.
“It was an effect of what happened on the field. We wanted to shake hands after the match, but it didn’t happen, and that was the end of it,” Hesson said.
Furthermore, speaking about India’s stance on not shaking hands, a visibly disappointed Akhtar said, “I’m speechless. It is disheartening to see and I don’t know what to say. Hats off to India. Just don’t make things political. Cricket match hain isko political mat banao. Hum ne acchi statement di hai aapkee liye. Hum bohut kuchh bol sakte hai. Hoti rehte hain ladayi jhagre, ghar me bhi ho jaati hain.
