Bhubaneswar: Indian shotput thrower Tajinderpal Singh Toor has smashed the national and Asian records at the ongoing National Inter-State Championships at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar. The ace player battered his own national record by throwing a distance of 21.77 meters and also setting a new Asia record as he qualified the World Athletics Championships to be held in Budapest.

The 28-year-old is a gold medallist from the 2018 Jakarta Asian Games. Speaking after his record-breaking effort, he dedicated his award to his grandmother who helped him when he had no sponsors. “I dedicate this win to my grandmother, who helped me by sending money from Canada when I had no sponsors”, said Tajinderpal after qualifying for Asian Games.

Karanveer Singh won the silver medal in the event with the best effort of 19.78m, while Sahib Singh sttled for the bronze with 18.75m.
