Dubai: Defending champions West Indies have lost their 2nd consecutive match of the 2017 T20 World Cup in Dubai, as Aiden Markram and Rassie van der Dussen led South Africa to an 8-wicket victory over Kieron Pollard’s side. In pursuit of a 144-run target, Portrias lost their captain Temba Bavuma in the first over, but subsequent dominating innings from Aiden Markram (51*), Rassie van der Dussen (43*) and Reeza Hendricks (39) propelled South Africa to their first win of the tournament. The West Indies were bowled out for 55 runs, but the Proteas did a little better, scoring 118 in 20 overs.
Earlier, despite a strong knock from opener Evin Lewis, the West Indies batters failed to put up a huge score (56). With three wickets in two overs, Dwaine Pretorius was the top bowler for South Africa. Keshav Maharaj took two wickets, with Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje each taking one wicket. With this victory, South Africa moved into fourth place in Group 1 points, tied with England, Australia, and Sri Lanka on two points each, although the Eoin Morgan-led team leads the table with a considerably higher net run rate.
