In a major development in the Indian cricket team on Thursday, the BCCI announced a change in leadership in the Indian cricket team, making Suryakumar Yadav the new T20I captain in place of Rohit Sharma. Continuing with the list of changes, Rohit Sharma, the captain of the T20 World Cup-winning team, will play the fifty-over series against Sri Lanka, accompanied by Virat Kohli.

Earlier, Suryakumar Yadav had led the T20I team in the series in South Africa, where Rohit Sharma could not play due to the strenuous ODI World Cup. Pandya, who was India’s vice-captain in the T20 World Cup, has been included in the T20I squad again, although there were issues regarding his fitness. India’s best pacer, Jasprit Bumrah, will be out of action in the Sri Lanka tour because of his fitness issues and to get fresh for the upcoming series.

Shubman Gill has been made the vice-captain for the T20Is as well as the ODIs for the Sri Lanka series after his impressive performance as the captain for the secondary Indian team that demolished Zimbabwe 4-1. Sanju Samson has been added to the white ball team for the Sri Lanka series. However, Ruturaj Gaikwad, albeit performing well against Zimbabwe, does not make it to the T20I team. In the T20I squad, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shivam Dube, Rinku Singh, and Riyan Parag have been included the same as in the previous list, while Jaiswal has become part of the ODI squad for the first time.

Returning to the T20I squad bowling line-up are Mohammed Siraj and Axar Patel while Ravi Bishnoi, Washington Sundar, and Khaleel Ahmed, who was part of the T20I squad during the Zimbabwe series.
