Former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh has drawn comparisons between Mumbai Indians’ Suryakumar Yadav and South African legend AB de Villiers, applauding Yadav for his wide array of shots and effortless batting style. Singh’s remarks came after Yadav’s sensational performance against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the Wankhede Stadium.
Yadav’s blistering innings, which was notable by the speed of 17 balls, helped him to reach the fifty-run mark, elevated the MI’s nerve-wracking fight to a memorable win, outclassing RCB, whose underdog MI chased their invincible 197 runs-target in just 15.3 overs. Singh, who is enamored by the reign of Yadav, exfoliated on being relieved at his retirement from cricket as the thought of facing such a player (Yadav) on the field pit him in fear.
Singh applauded Suryakumar Yadav, who had it all, from drop-kicks to hooks and everything in between. He could deal with any type of delivery by employing a broad range of shots. He observed, “Any ball you send, he has an answer for like yorker or bouncer. He can now perform sweep and pull shot, and upper-cut, and I don’t know anything else that he can perform. He cannot be referred to as just another top-notch player of this age.
The fact that Yadav, despite having a tough start to IPL 2024 in his first match against Delhi Capitals, managed to find his rhythm against RCB is a clear example of the kind of self-confidence that the cricketers possess. The three consecutive boundaries in his magisterial finish of 52 runs off 19 balls, including four sixes and five fours, disturbed the royal complexion catenation.
