Legendary pacer Lasith Malinga on Tuesday announces retirement from T20 after playing over 295 matches. The ace Sri Lankan cricketer made the announcement on his YouTube Channel titled ‘While my shoes will rest my love for the game will never rest’.
Malinga bid goodbye to the Test Cricket in 2011. The former speedster had bowled out from 50-over by recording his One Day International appearance for the 1996 World Cup Championship in 2019 against Bangladesh at the R Premadasa Stadium.
Taking to his YouTube Channel, Malinga thanked Sri Lanka Cricket and his franchise teams like Mumbai Indians, Melbourne Stars, and Kent Cricket club for the overwhelming love and support. Taking to his microblogging account, he tweeted his retirement stating, “ Hanging up my T20 shoes and retiring from all forms of cricket! Thankful to all those who supported me in my journey, and looking forward to sharing my experience with young cricketers in the years to come.”
A fearsome cricketer known for his menacing yorkers, he is the leading wicket-taker in T20I cricket with his 107 scalps. He also has two T20I hat-tricks to his name. His career witnessed credits from 30 Test matches, 226 ODIs, and 84 T20Is for Sri Lanka, picking up 546 wickets overall. The fast pacer’s talent was last staged at a T20I match for Sri Lanka in March 2020 against West Indies in Pallekele.
