The Wimbledon semifinal preparations of Jannik Sinner caused some concern when he did not practise after his second-round win over Bulgaria’s Grigor Dimitrov. The world-ranked No. 1 Italian star fell painfully during the game, which seemed to injure his right elbow, particularly in his serve stance. However, even after being scared, Sinner actually won the match and took the first two sets 6-3, 7-5, with the game being stopped because of an injury to Dimitrov on his pectoral side, forcing him to retire. The third set was tied at 2-2 till the Bulgarian dropped out.

On the next morning, Sinner missed his training and instead had an MRI scan to determine the extent of damage to his elbow. This soon raised concerns over his ability to clash with American Ben Shelton in their quarterfinal game.

Nevertheless, his coach, Darren Cahill, has allayed these fears after giving an encouraging report on his state of well-being. Addressing a sports agency, Cahill explained, “There was nothing extraordinary that was detected during the MRI. It was only a little rest and recuperation he wanted.”

According to Cahill, Sinner was still looking forward to keeping in shape and demanded a light session of hitting. He got the MRI about an hour ago, so he did not want to have off a whole day so Simone [Vagnozzi] and I just tossed him a couple of balls out of the basket, Cahill said. He stressed the fact that light interior sessions in Wimbledon are rather frequent and do not always indicate the problem with injuries.

Cahill, who has already coached the legends, including Lleyton Hewitt and Andre Agassi, further said that excessive playing on grass can even disrupt timing, courtesy of the uneven bounce. Andre took breaks of this kind also. We do not find it strange.
