Shreyas Iyer was in trouble with the Board of Control in Cricket in India (BCCI) again, even after getting Punjab Kings to a fantastic victory against Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2026. PBKS played a resounding all-round game at Chepauk, managing to run the entire distance of 210 runs and still have eight balls to spare.

The bowlers were slightly expensive to finish but the initial breakthroughs meant that CSK remained within a tight. It was then over to the batting unit and the batting had a great start which put the foundation of an easy chase. Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh, the openers, came together to make a 61-run partnership in a mere 4.2 overs, which gave the innings its tone.

Nevertheless, the triumph was marred with a penalty slapped against Shreyas Iyer due to keeping a slow over-rate. This was the second offence of the season according to the IPL rules by Punjab Kings. Consequently, Iyer was fined 24 lakh, which is twice the 12 lakh fine he had previously paid during the tournament due to the same thing. All other members of the playing XI, such as the Impact Player were also fined either 6 lakh or 25 percent of their match fees, whichever was lower.

During the after game presentation, Iyer commended the duo of opening players on the way they started the match by explosively scoring and taking the pressure off and creating momentum early in the chase.

Although the win was achieved, the recurring over-rate misconduct has left PBKS concerned, and therefore better time management in the field is necessary in the future.
