Indian Board of Control Cricket in India (BCCI) has issued a third medical update on star batter Shreyas Iyer, who has been injured in an abdomen in the third and the final ODI against Australia at Sydney Cricket Ground. The event took place when Iyer made a diving catch to the bowling of Harshit Rana to send back Alex Carey. Despite successfully accomplishing the catch, the 30-year-old landed clumsily, with pain in his abdomen the first thing to feel before being pushed off the field by the team physio.

Further scans disclosed that Iyer had sustained a blunt wound in his abdomen that had caused a laceration of the spleen with internal bleeding. The BCCI ensured that the bleeding was contained after a little surgery. The board said in its statement that he has been placed under proper medical management of the same.

In a great news to the fans, the BCCI declared that Shreyas Iyer has been released out of the Sydney hospital as he has shown positive signs of recovery. The batter will however spend some extra days in Sydney to get some follow-ups with the specialists before being allowed to travel back to India.

He has now settled down and is doing all right. His recovery has been pleased by the BCCI Medical Team, and as well as specialists working in Sydney and India, and today he has been discharged out of hospital.

It was also witnessed that the cricket board was grateful towards Dr. Kouroush Haghigi and his team in Sydney, and Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala in India, who offered expert medical care to the cricketer and gave him the best treatment possible.

Shreyas Iyer was injured in time of the tight schedule of the Indian team on the international front, but the fact that he has been improving and recovering gradually has become a form of relief to both the management of the team and the fans.
