India cricket team women’s off-spinner Shreyanka Patil confirmed out of the ongoing Women’s Asia Cup 2024 due to a left-hand injury. The Asian Cricket Council revealed on Saturday that Patil had a fracture in her fourth finger in her left hand; hence, she would miss the tournament.
Due to the injury and absence of Patil on the Indian team, Tanuja Kanwar has been named on the team as a substitute for Patil, and she is going to play in the tournament for the first time. By adding Kanwar to their team, the freshmen displayed themselves as a new power factor in football while they were in procession in the competition.
India Women are scheduled to take on UAE Women in their last group stage game of the Women’s Asia Cup 2024 at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium, Dambulla, Sri Lanka. Patil had also played a good knock in the last match against Pakistan Women and contributed immensely to the team’s performance. In her bowling, she got two wickets and bowled only 14 runs, and the economy rate was 4.2 in her 3.2-over spell.
In that particular encounter, Pakistan Women, after being sent into bat, got off to a wobbly start again. Other scoring included Sidra Ameen, 25 off 35 consisting of three fours; Tuba Hassan, scoring 22 off 19 with three fours; and Fatima Sana, contributing 22* off 16 with four and two sixes. The star of the bowling tandem for India was Deepti Sharma, who bowled magnificently, getting 3 wickets in 20 runs, and the other wickets came from Shreyanka Patil, bowling 2 wickets for 14 runs, and Renuka Singh, bowling 2 overs for also 14 runs. Pooja Vastrakar also played her part in the bowl, taking two wickets.
In reply, Indian was steady with an excellent 85 runs, with Shafali Verma scoring 40 off 29 balls with six fours along with a sixer, and Smriti Mandhana scoring 45 off 31 balls with nine fours only. India was able to win a seven-wicket, and there were 35 balls left when the match ended, although the team lost a few wickets. For her excellent contribution to the match, Deepti Sharma was awarded the title of Player of the Match.
