With another season of the Indian Premier League in sight, excitement is mounting in the run up to the IPL 2026 which is only days away now. The limelight will again be divided between the young Indian talents who are thrilling and the old familiar faces of MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, popularly referred to as Ro-Ko-Dho. The IPL is particularly important to these icons, since it is the only T20 tournament that they are already involved in. Although Dhoni has ceased participating in international cricket, Kohli and Rohit mainly play in the ODIs currently, so this league is important preparation before they resume their work on the national level in June.
Kohli and Rohit have already started training with Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bengaluru respectively. The long-serving opener has already impressed with the bat, even smashing Shardul Thakur with a big six in a workout, indicating that he is in great shape. Rohit is noticeably thin and sharp and has set the MI camp ablaze. His dedication was praised by head coach Mahela Jayawardene who termed him as a newer, fitter version who is capable of leading by the front.
On April 29, Mumbai Indians will begin their IPL 2026 with a match with Kolkata Knight Riders in the legendary Wankhede Stadium. Nevertheless, Rohit had brief spells of his most productive season during IPL 2025, where he scored 418 runs, with four half-centuries, and was the second-highest scorer in MI after Suryakumar Yadav. After being re-fitted in a state of fitness and concentration, the experience opener is expected to perform a star season.
