Many social media sites reported on Friday night that team India captain Rohit Sharma and his wife Ritika Sajdeh were blessed with a baby boy.
Although both Rohit and Ritika have not publicly come out to tell everyone that they are now parents to two kids, it has been confirmed that the couple has been blessed with a second child. The two, who are parents to their daughter Samaira, a six-year-old, are yet to release more information about the birth, though the timing still remains undisclosed.
Rohit, who wasn’t part of the Indian team tour to Perth for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test series against Australia, raised eyebrows about his participation in the matches. The first Test of what is being billed as a monumental series will start in Perth on November 22 and the non-inclusion of the Indian captain gave rise to a debate as to his role.
India’s head coach, Gautam Gambhir, was asked about Rohit’s availability for the first test during the pre-departure press conference. He said nothing definitive had been communicated about the captain’s readiness, but he was optimistic that Rohit would return to the team soon. Gambhir also highlighted that if Rohit is not able to lead the team in the first match, then vice-captain Jasprit Bumrah will lead the team.
Not only will Rohit possibly be missing from the leadership position, but the opener position will also be left vacant. If Rohit was unavailable, then Gambhir said the team would rely on Abhimanyu Easwaran or KL Rahul to be that man. The choice regarding the player will be made nearer to such a match or even in the middle of the series against the Australians, as the decision may pinch the team’s strategy for the series.
