Bangalore is known for loving cricket like no other, which made the wait for an IPL title notable in the city’s cricketing history. However, on Tuesday night, the challenging time finally drew to a close. It took Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) 18 years and many setbacks to win the IPL trophy for the first time, narrowly defeating Punjab Kings in a thrilling 2025 final. What happened was more than just a win — it was atonement, recompense and fulfilment of a dream deeply felt by millions over nearly two decades.
Everyone on RCB played a role in their victory, which was built on the strength of the entire squad throughout the season. Everyone from the superstars to the least-used players will be remembered as heroes by the fans. Virat Kohli, who has captained RCB since its beginning, won the IPL title at last in his fantastic career. The new captain, Rajat Patidar and the dependable Krunal Pandya, who performed well in key moments, were soon loved by everyone. Spots in fan hearts were given to foreign players like Phil Salt and Josh Hazlewood as well.
The squad will be returning to Bangalore on June 4 afternoon, with a new title as champions. Karnataka’s Chief Minister will welcome them at Vidhana Soudha when they return. At first, a big grand parade in open buses was announced, but this had to be changed due to problems — instead, plans are in place for a ceremonial felicitation from 5–6 PM.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) will end their celebrations at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, which is their home ground. Although few victories were had this season, the stadium now stands as a symbol of the team’s greatest achievement. This trophy is more valuable to them than its simple sports meaning.
