Ambati Rayudu courted controversy yet again in the final of IPL 2024 when he indicated that Virat Kohli staking sensational scores for Royal Challengers Bengaluru might be a problem for the rest of the team. Rayudu, who is not afraid of expressing himself, had earlier taken a dig at RCB after they dumped out of the tournament, and during the panel discussion involving Kevin Pietersen, Matthew Hayden and Mayanti Langer, he defended himself even if they yelled at him stating that the unconventional analysis was his perception of the game.
Rayudu also vehemently pointed out that Kohli has raised this bar, which is very important for younger players such as Rajat Patidar. This is on the basis of respecting individual talent and promoting each player to have his or her own personality without straying away too much from the general set-up.
Pietersen interjected in the debate asserting that excellence should be used as a reference, rather than the pressure forcing the other players to emit similar performances as Kohli. Rayudu was unrelenting, arguing that such pressure may be detrimental.
Mayanti Langer interrupted by informing that Patidar has been performing well but Rayudu continued that there should be an adequate and reasonable policy for the Team Management wherein they don’t put a lot of hope in Kohli’s bat and, at the same time, the upcoming young talents should not be judged by these superstars.
The kind of criticism that Rayudu directed at RCB and Kohli has been a common conversation, as far as Rayudu himself not too long ago, raised objections concerning the effortless centrality that the team under Kohli has become rather fixated on personal glory. Some of his remarks especially those on the team’s inclination and need for a diverse one that was stated to require different forms of strength elicited varying responses from some social media users.
