Indian batting stalwart Rahul Dravid is entitled to take over as the Indian cricket team’s head coach after the team concludes the T20 World Cup in UAE and Oman. This development in the Indian cricket world came on Friday in Dubai during the IPL final where BCCI President Sourav Ganguly and Secretary Jay Shah persuaded the 48-year-old batting maestro to coach the Indian Team.
BCCI interacting with a local newsroom on Friday said,” Dravid has confirmed he will be the next head coach of the Indian team. He will be stepping down as the head of NCA soon.” Dravid will be replacing current coach Ravi Sashtri whose term ends after the T20 World Cup. It is been reported that Dravid has been roped in for 2 years on a pay scale of Rs 10 crore.
“Dravid is the best choice for the Indian team at the moment. He knows the players and has played a crucial role in creating a system where players have had a smooth transition into the senior team. The BCCI needs him at the moment and we have requested him to come on board till 2023. The discussion has been positive and we are hoping to see him on board when we advertise for a new coach,” a source from BCCI stated.
In August, Dravid had reportedly turned down BCCI’s offer to head the national team as he had ended his contract at the NCA. Dravid’s re-application for the post at NCA made it clear that the former Indian captain was not interested in replacing Shashtri. However, after being turned down subsequently by several candidates, BCCI was forced to look at Dravid and persuade him.
