The IOA in a recent annoucement on Wednesday confirmed PV Sindhu as a replacement of Neeraj Chopra who was slated to be the flag bearer at the CWG.
The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) is delighted to announce shuttler Ms PV Sindhu, a two-time Olympic medallist, as the Flagbearer of Team India at the Opening Ceremony of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games,” the IOA said in an official statement.
Listing its possible options the association mentioned that weightlifter Mirabai Chanu and boxer Lovlina Borgohain were also considered as replacements.
As per reports, IOA Acting President Mr Anil Khanna, IOA Secretary General Mr Rajeev Mehta, IOA Treasurer Mr Anandeshwar Panday, and Team India Chef de Mission Mr Rajesh Bhandari, shortlisted the three athletes after which Mr Khanna and Mr Mehta zeroed down on Sindhu.
Neeraj Chopra, star Indian Javelin Thrower was ruled out of the CWG owing to an injury he suffered during his fourth attempt at Eugene Finale on Sunday.
