Ex-Australia skipper Ricky Ponting has recently said that India’s pace sensation Jasprit Bumrah and Australia’s Travis Head are the players to watch out for in the upcoming T20 World Cup, which is scheduled to commence on June 2. Ponting has named Bumrah as one of the players most likely to perform well among bowlers and Head among batters.

Jasprit Bumrah, the best fast bowler for the Indian cricket team, also excelled for the Mumbai Indians during the IPL. Even though Mumbai had their poorest season in 17 seasons, Bumrah benefited from taking 20 wickets in 13 matches. This was a very good thing, and his control and economy were outstanding as he bowled at an economy rate of just 6.48 runs per over, something that is rather special when you consider that the top 10 bowlers in the tournament were going at more than eight runs an over.

Ponting singled out Bumrah as his leading wicket-taker for the tournament and heaped praise on the India pacer, “He has been one of the most outstanding performers for the last several years, just coming off an exceptional IPL.” Ponting mentioned that Bumrah was excellent during the initial period of the Powerplay and the death overs. ”He bowled the tough overs, which means he has more chances of picking up wickets. His economy rate at the end of IPL was less than 7 runs per over,” said Ponting who is the coach of Delhi Capitals in the IPL.

As for batting, Travis Head caught the eye of Ponting for his aggressive and fearless batting. In the IPL, he was the fourth-highest run-getter but had a strike rate above 200 for the major part of the tournament. He was able to accumulate 567 runs in the 15 matches, with an average of 40.50, with a strike rate of 191. 55, one of which was a century, and four were half centuries.
