It was a bad day for India on the 10th of the Paris Olympics 2024. The Indian badminton player Lakshya Sen, also missed out on clinching a bronze medal. It was Sen’s test against Malaysia’s Lee Zii Jia, and while he put up a fight, he was defeated 21-13, 16-21, 11-21. However, at least in other sports, India could achieve some triumph.
India performed well in the team round of 16 of the Table Tennis event for a 3-2 victory over Romania and moved on to the quarter-finals. In athletics, Kiran Pahal participated in the 400m women’s group, emerged seventh in the Round 1 heat, and moved to the repechage. In men’s 3000m steeplechase Round 1 Heat 2, Avinash Sable also came sixth, but qualified for the final.
Thus, Maheshwari Singh and Anant Jeet Singh competed upto the bronze medal in mixed skeet shooting but were defeated in the final. Wrestling was also not kind to Nisha Dahiya; she was knocked down by North Korea’s Pak Sol Gum in the quarters. Dahiya got injured to his shoulder in the match and, after Pak’s semi-final defeat, was declared out of the repechage.
Due to this, the preparation for Day 11 is expected to be very interesting. This means the daily events will begin with table tennis at 1:30 PM IST, where the men’s team of Harmeet Desai, Manav Thakkar, and Sharath Kamal will be participating in the Round of 16. The qualification round of the men’s javelin throw will also start where Kishore Jena’s group is slated to throw. Such an intriguing schedule of the women’s 400m repechage round will be held soon at the Kirkland on Thursday, while in the bouts at the Carioca Arena on Friday, Vinesh Phogat will face the defending Olympic 57kg champion, Yui Susaki, at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
The best event of the day would be Neeraj Chopra’s javelin qualification round, for which the timing would be 3:30 PM IST. A champion is expected to bring in the best of the best, and Chopra did just that or, at the very least, the expectations thereof.
